Fireplace in new Newlands house

Fireplace in Newlands, Cape Town

After the enquiry we met the building team on site and discussed how the unit was to be installed while they were still busy with the brickwork. We gave them specifications on how we wanted the stand to be built thus with an opening in the middle for oxygen supply to the fireplace. They build the platform and the sides according to our drawings. A week later we placed the unit on position and connected all the chimney piping onto the fireplace and we also lined the calcium silica boards behind the fireplace to avoid heat loss into the wall. We then insulated above the top air vent thus improving convectional flow of heat. The building team closed up the fireplace plaster and paint leaving a space for the top vent according to our drawings. We visited the construction site couple of times checking the progress and to make sure everything was being built accordingly. On completion of the brickwork, we took some dimensions and designed the trim to fit around the fireplace. Only after the wall was decorated, we fitted the trim and the top vent. Below are some pictures during and after installation.
