Upgrade your home’s heating system to a new level of luxury with our underfloor heating solutions, designed to deliver the ultimate in warmth and comfort
Improve your heating game with our hydronic underfloor heating systems in South Africa! Say goodbye to traditional heating methods and hello to increased coverage, efficiency, and comfort. Not only will you experience the same benefits as our radiator-based systems, but you’ll enjoy added perks too. If you’re searching for an even-heating alternative to provide you with long-lasting comfort and temperature control, consider underfloor heating, one of our two central heating options.
Hydrofire provides central heating with built-in tank storage so you can rapidly and efficiently heat your house and enjoy a cozy atmosphere. You can ensure that your property has the ideal climate by using the fireplace boiler. You can profit from having hot water in your home thanks to the flexibility to combine with other energy sources. Continue reading to find out more about underfloor heating in Cape Town and Johannesburg. Underfloor heating system is an unobtrusive type of heating system where a heated medium is circulated through pipes beneath the floor to transfer heat to the room above. Since the heating pipes are beneath the floor, underfloor heating can function regardless of room layout, with no space or airflow requirements. This leads to a central heating system that is highly effective at distributing heat throughout the house, and ensuring comfort in all weather conditions, but, unlike our wall radiators, doesn’t require any wall space so it will never clash with the décor.
What are the benefits of underfloor Heating?
Both of Hydrofire’s hydronic central heating options, radiators and underfloor systems, offer benefits over traditional heating methods, such as increased coverage and increased efficiency, at minimal added cost. The underfloor systems, however, offer just a bit more. Due to the underfloor system heating the floor, and then the air above it, in a uniform manner, the system doesn’t generate any hot/cold spots and prevents the formation of drafts, or kicking up dust. Additionally, underfloor heating is more effective in heating double volume and large, open plan rooms, as it starts heating the room from the ground up, rather than relying on the radiator to circulate warmth throughout the entire volume first.
The operation of hydronic underfloor heating is comparable to that of our hydronic radiator-based systems. Water is heated to the desired temperature by a central heat source and then pumped throughout the residence. In underfloor systems, piping is placed on top of an insulating layer and is buried beneath the floors. This insulation layer reflects the heat upwards, towards the flooring level. There it heats up the floor, and then transfers the heat into the room above. The system constantly circulates heating medium, with the liquid conducting its stored heat outwards and then cycling back through the system to the heat source to be reheated.
Heat up your space in style with one of our two Underfloor Heating options! Our Traditional System has been a fan favorite since day one, and our Ultra-Dense Installation is a game-changer, offering even more benefits and unbeatable satisfaction. You can now choose the most efficient underfloor heating that’s right for you.
All functions can be performed by one panel.
The new floor heating panel from Hydrofire has a u-shaped turning track built into every panel and an aluminum heat distribution system that covers the whole panel. As a result, you now just require one kind of panel for the job. The panels may accommodate heating coils that are 12, 16, and 20 mm in diameter. They weigh less than 1 kg, measure 120×60 cm (0.72 m2), and are supplied folded at a convenient size of 60×60 cm. All of this contributes to installation becoming quicker and simpler than previously.
Warm up faster with our Ultra-Dense Underfloor Heating – for when you need heating now. Our Ultra-Dense underfloor systems are based on a revolutionary new panel system, with a much thinner design than our classic option. With the ultra-dense panel combining the insulation and piping layer, eliminating the need for a screed top layer, the installation thickness is reduced by up to 30mm, making this panel based installation perfect for retrofitting projects, where minimal floor height changes are desired.
Additionally, due to the fact that we are no longer adding ±45 mm screed which is what caused the 2 hour lag and heat retention, this system now boasts only a 30-minute heating lag time, meaning customers can have their heating when they want it. In addition to quicker heating, this reduced lag time, when combined with one of our smart thermostat systems, can modulate the heat output of the system, ensuring only as much heat as needed is generated, so nothing goes to waste.
Our underfloor heating panels are the latest floor heating system with an ALL-IN-ONE solution. You only need one panel to complete your floor heating work. The panel includes U-shaped tracks for turning the coils + additional tracks for supply flow, as well as an aluminum coating for heat distribution across the entire panel. Our underfloor heating panels are produced in XPS 400 with an extra high compressive strength of 40 t/m², allowing almost all types of floor to be installed on top:
The Ultra-Dense system also comes with four different panel varieties, allowing for customers to select the system that is right for them. These four panel varieties are EPS 20mm, EPS 16mm, XPS 25mm, and XPS 30mm.
The XPS 30mm is our most common system base, featuring good heating times at a good price, with an acceptable thickness, suitable both for retrofitting, and for new builds where clients want a quick response time.
Where the 30mm is too thick, however, the 25mm will find its mark. Though slightly reduced heating characteristics from the 30mm, this panel offers a good balance between thickness and price.
Our last two options, the EPS 20mm and 16mm, are best suited to retrofits where there is minimal height available, and where shaving off a couple of millimeter’s is worth the small heat loss.
The flooring level, that sits on top of the underfloor installation. Preferably a material with good heat transfer characteristics, no thicker than 25mm.
The combined insulation and piping level, with the panels featuring recessed pathways for easy pipe placement, ensuring the panel thickness is the only thickness that contributes to the overall installation height.
Polyethylene sheeting that protects the system from any moisture or contaminants from the base level upwards.
Our Classic Underfloor Heating – a tried and tested solution. This installation has a greater thickness than our ultra-dense installation, due to the multiple layers of protective sheeting, insulation and piping, but features high durability and reliability. Due to this thickness, the traditional installation is better suited to new builds, where the floor can be sunk without much additional construction effort, but installation in retrofits is possible.
Additionally, again due to the thickness, the system features a heating lag time of 2-3 hours. This means it will take 2-3 hours for the home to fully warm up once the system is turned on. The thick insulation layer means that the system retains heat for an extended period of time, meaning the system is best suited to areas where whole day heating is required, such as a home office, shops etc. Alternatively, with the addition of one of our smart integrated systems, users can set distinct on/off times for the system, ensuring the areas are already warmed up when they need it.
In conclusion, our classic style underfloor heating system provides a tried-and-true solution for those who prioritize reliability and durability, or those who desire a system with high heat retention.

The screed layer that is set on top of the pipes, and provides the system with a durable frame, holding the pipes in place and supporting the weight of the flooring above, while still allowing the heat to transfer freely.
Fiber mesh layer, providing further reinforcement to the screed, and prevents it from cracking.
The pipes that transport the heated liquid, lain atop the insulation boarding and held in place with embedded clips, up until the screed layer is added on top.
