Where Can You Buy Cast Iron Pots?

Where Can You Buy Cast Iron Pots? The Answer Is Hydrofire.

The Cast Iron Comeback — And Why It Matters

There’s something unmistakably satisfying about cooking with cast iron. It hisses when meat hits the surface. It browns evenly. It smells like tradition. And it holds heat the way a good story holds attention — slowly, completely, and for a long time.

But beyond the sensory experience, cast iron offers something deeper: a return to intentional cooking. In a world of fast meals and disposable tools, cast iron reminds us to slow down, to savour, to pass down stories through flavour. It invites us to take pride in the act of feeding others and to choose tools that elevate both the process and the outcome.

More and more South Africans are choosing to cook with cast iron — not just because it’s durable, but because it brings soul back into the kitchen. It’s a piece of tradition that feels just as at home in a modern apartment as it does in a farmhouse kitchen.

And if you’re wondering “Where can you buy cast iron pots in South Africa?” — the answer is simple: Hydrofire.

We’ve long been experts in fire. From the warmth of a fireplace to the flicker of a stovetop flame, we understand the power of heat to create comfort. And now, we bring that passion into the heart of your home: the kitchen. Through our exclusive partnership with Chasseur, Hydrofire offers authentic, enamelled French cast iron cookware — perfect for every meal, every mood, and every cook.

Whether you’re simmering a Sunday stew, baking a family favourite, or trying a new curry, this cookware helps you bring care back into cooking — and elegance back into your everyday.

Why Chasseur?

Hydrofire proudly stocks Chasseur — the iconic cookware brand handcrafted in the Champagne-Ardenne region of France since 1924. The name means “hunter,” evoking images of slow-cooked, rustic meals, open flames, and flavour that unfolds like a story.

What sets Chasseur apart?

  • Double enamel coating for durability and easy cleaning:

Each piece of Chasseur cookware is coated with not one, but two layers of enamel. This creates a glass-like surface that’s resistant to chips, stains, and wear. It also makes cleaning effortless — no scrubbing, no soaking, no rusting. Just a quick rinse and wipe, and it’s ready to go again.

  • Recycled cast iron for sustainability:

Sustainability starts with sourcing, and Chasseur walks the talk. Every pot is cast from recycled iron, helping to reduce waste and give new life to existing materials. By choosing Chasseur, you’re not just investing in your kitchen — you’re supporting a more sustainable future.

  • Hand-finished craftsmanship for beauty and performance:

Every Chasseur pot is individually cast in sand moulds, then enamelled and hand-finished by skilled artisans in Donchery, France. This traditional process results in cookware that’s not only durable, but uniquely beautiful — no two pieces are exactly the same.

  • Vibrant colour options to suit any kitchen personality:

There’s a Chasseur to match your style. These enamel colours are fired into the surface, meaning they won’t fade, chip, or dull over time. Your cookware becomes a centrepiece — on the stove, on the table, and in your memories.

These aren’t just pots. They’re generational companions, made to be passed down and proudly displayed.

A Winter Recipe Worth Sharing: Cape Malay Chicken Curry

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 thumb fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 2 tsp curry powder
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 250ml chicken stock

  • Fresh coriander for garnish

???? Method:

  1. Heat your Chasseur stew pot on medium and brown the chicken. Remove and set aside.
  2. In the same pot, sauté onions, garlic, and ginger until soft.
  3. Add all the spices and toast for 1–2 minutes.
  4. Stir in tomato paste and chopped tomatoes. Cook until thickened.
  5. Return chicken to the pot. Add potatoes, stock, and sugar. Cover and simmer gently for 45–60 minutes.
  6. Season to taste and garnish with fresh coriander.
  7. Serve with rice, sambals, and chutney. Don’t forget the roti!

Why Enamelled Cast Iron Is the Healthier, Smarter Choice

Buying from Hydrofire means choosing cookware that’s not only high-performance but also safe, practical, and visually beautiful:

  • Non-toxic cookware with no synthetic coatings:

Chasseur cookware is completely free from PFOA, PTFE, and other harmful chemicals commonly found in non-stick alternatives. The enamel finish is made from natural materials, providing a safe cooking surface that won’t leach toxins or break down over time.

  • No seasoning needed thanks to enamel protection:

Traditional raw cast iron requires regular seasoning to maintain its surface and protect against rust. Chasseur’s enamelled cast iron skips this step entirely, offering a naturally non-stick interior that doesn’t require oil layers, baking, or ongoing maintenance. Just cook, clean, and repeat.

  • Perfect compatibility with acidic ingredients like tomatoes, wine, and vinegar:

Raw cast iron can react with acidic foods, resulting in metallic flavours and eroded seasoning layers. Enamelled cast iron, on the other hand, handles acidity effortlessly — making it ideal for rich tomato sauces, tangy marinades, and slow-cooked curries.

  • Stunning pots that go from stovetop to tabletop with pride:

Chasseur pieces are as elegant as they are effective. Their rich colour palette and timeless design mean you can serve your meals straight from the pot. No need for extra dishes — your cookware becomes part of your presentation, adding style to every spread.

It’s cookware that works as hard as you do — and looks good doing it.
